‘Nagarik Sangam’ – New Platform for Solutions and Dialogue

Introduction

An innovative initiative of the District Administration, “Nagarik Sangam”, has been launched by the Hon’ble District Magistrate Neha Sharma. Its objective is to establish direct dialogue between the citizens and the administration and to ensure quick resolution of the problems of the citizens.

This initiative is being organized in a phased manner in 10 municipal bodies of the district from 17 January 2025. Dialogue sessions will be organized with the citizens in each ward, where the problems will be heard and resolved on the spot. In addition, the administration will also provide information about government schemes and their benefits to the public.

Objectives

1. Quick resolution of problems:
On-the-spot resolution of local problems through ward-wise public dialogue.

2. Promotion of public participation:
Connecting citizens with the benefits of the welfare schemes of the government by giving them information.

3. Building transparency and trust:
Empowering dialogue between the public and the administration.

4. Upgradation of services:

Resolving problems related to water, electricity, sanitation and other basic amenities on priority.

Key features

1. Quick resolution of problems:
On-the-spot resolution of local problems like cleanliness, drainage, street lights and encroachment.

2. Public participation:

Awareness campaign and application process to provide benefits of government schemes to eligible citizens.

3. Establishment of special counters:

Special counters to resolve complaints related to house tax, water tax and electricity bills.

4. Quick Response Team (QRT):

Formation of special teams at the municipal body level for quick action.

5. Feedback and transparency:

Public review of the work done by the municipal bodies and getting feedback from the public.

Program structure

1. Phased implementation:

From January 17 to February 2025:

Ward-wise dialogue sessions in all 10 municipal bodies of the district.

Listing of problems in each ward and solution process.

2. Multi-sectoral coordination:

Presence of senior officials from Health, Education, Jal Nigam, Electricity, Women Welfare, Public Works Department and other departments.

Quick and effective solutions through departmental coordination.

3. Special focus areas:

Connecting eligible citizens with government schemes.

Ensuring proper resolution of citizens’ suggestions and complaints.

Expected results

1. Quick resolution of problems:
Priority resolution of problems raised in ward-wise Jan Samvad.

2. Building transparency and trust:
Trust and transparent dialogue between administration and citizens.

3. Improvement of public services:
Improvement in quality of water, electricity, sanitation and other services.

4. Public awareness:
Making maximum benefits of welfare schemes of the government reach eligible citizens.

Way forward

“Nagarik Sangam” can be developed as a regular process. This will not only solve the problems of citizens but will also lead to improvement in public services and administrative transparency.

This initiative of Honorable District Magistrate Neha Sharma will prove to be an effective medium to bring the district administration closer to the citizens and solve their problems.
